Wivex, Restaurant in Tivoli Gardens, Denmark
Wivex was a restaurant occupying a corner location on the facade building of Tivoli Gardens, overlooking Vesterbrogade street in central Copenhagen. The establishment offered dining in a prominent spot that made it a well-known gathering place in the city.
Founded in 1880 by Carl Christian Wivel, the establishment took the name Wivex in 1931 due to family naming rights. The original building was demolished in 1964 to make way for new structures designed by architect Preben Hansen.
The restaurant served as a gathering place for live music in Copenhagen, where Danmarks Radio broadcast lunch concerts featuring various orchestras from the 1930s through the 1950s. These broadcasts drew music lovers from across the city who came to experience performances in person.
The restaurant was easy to reach at a corner location directly facing Tivoli Gardens' main street entrance. Visitors could access the place without entering the amusement park or paying park admission fees.
In March 1954, the restaurant hosted an unusual blend of dining and automobile exhibition in its space. Guests could enjoy meals while viewing newly introduced car models on display.
