Zagazig

The city stands on the Muweis Canal, spanning 14 square kilometers with numerous commercial districts and residential neighborhoods spreading across the eastern Nile delta.

Established in 1830 as a workers' settlement, Zagazig developed near the ancient city of Bubastis, which served as Egypt's capital during the 22nd dynasty.

The Sharkeya National Museum preserves archaeological artifacts from the region, including remnants from the temple complexes of Osorkon II and Nectanebo II.

The nearby ruins of Bubastis contain catacombs where ancient Egyptians buried sacred cats, reflecting the area's connection to the goddess Bastet.
