Child Museum, Children's educational museum in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt
The Child Museum is a museum in Heliopolis, Cairo, designed for young visitors and families, with hands-on learning stations both indoors and outdoors. The grounds include exhibition rooms, garden areas, and a dedicated zone where children can dig and handle objects themselves.
The museum was founded in 1985 by the Heliopolis Society with the aim of making Egyptian history accessible to children through play. In the decades that followed, the displays and learning areas were updated and expanded more than once.
The museum presents Egyptian civilization through hands-on stations where visitors explore and touch artifacts themselves. The exhibits show how the Nile and surrounding landscapes shaped how people lived and built their communities over time.
The main entrance is marked by a pyramid-shaped structure that helps orient visitors as they arrive. Shaded seating, a cafeteria, and restrooms are available across the grounds, making longer visits comfortable for families.
The layout of the exhibits follows the symbolic journey of the Nile Valley from ancient times to the present day, so a visit unfolds like a journey through time. Children move not just from room to room but from one period to another, which gives a natural sense of how long history really is.
