6th of October Panorama, Military museum in Heliopolis, Cairo, Egypt
The 6th of October Panorama is a museum in Heliopolis dedicated to the 1973 October War, featuring a monumental circular painting that depicts battle scenes in detail. The building displays military equipment, weapons, and documents from the conflict alongside informational presentations.
The museum was established in 1983 with cooperation from North Korea and officially opened on October 5, 1989, to document the 1973 war. This international partnership shaped the building's design and initial collection.
The cylindrical building reflects how Egypt chose to honor its military achievements after the 1973 war through a modern architectural form. Inside, the space shows how Egyptians remember this moment through objects, images, and the arrangement of exhibits that tell their story.
The museum sits near the Exhibition Land metro station, making it convenient to reach by public transport. Guided tours are available in several languages, and refreshment stands are located in the waiting areas throughout the building.
Visitors stand on a rotating platform positioned at the center of the enormous circular painting, giving them constantly changing views of the war scenes. This moving vantage point allows people to see the depicted events from multiple angles simultaneously.
