Heliopolis

Heliopolis is a residential district in northeastern Cairo that spans a large area with wide boulevards combining European architectural styles. The neighborhood blends various housing types with traditional Egyptian design elements throughout its layout.

A Belgian industrialist established this modern district in 1905 as a new residential area. The founding merged European urban planning with Egyptian traditions to create a new urban model.

The neighborhood houses several religious buildings, including the Cathedral of Our Lady and the Coptic Orthodox Church of Saint Mark, reflecting the area's religious diversity. These sites shape daily life for residents and define the character of the district.

The area connects to central Cairo through multiple transportation options, including the Metro and main roads to downtown. Visitors should choose transport options based on their destination and time of day.

A palace in the district displays unusual architectural details featuring Indian temple elements and geometric patterns. This blend of styles makes the building a notable example of experimental architecture from that period.
