Rod El Farag Axis Bridge, Cable-stayed bridge in Cairo, Egypt
Rod El Farag Axis Bridge is a road and cable-stayed crossing in Cairo, Egypt, spanning 540 meters over the Nile. The deck stretches more than 67 meters wide and is held by two tall towers that rise roughly 96 meters above the water.
The Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority built the crossing in 2019, using more than 6,000 piles and around 1,900 columns for the foundation. Completion provided a new link between eastern Cairo and the western desert highway.
The name refers to the El Farag neighborhood on the eastern riverbank, while locals use the passage daily as a link between distant parts of the city. Visitors crossing it notice the Nile flowing beneath and can watch the cables that slope down from tall towers on either side.
The passage links eastern Cairo to the Alexandria road and Matrouh direction without requiring drivers to go through the center. Pedestrians find a dedicated walkway running the full length, offering views of the river below.
The crossing holds the world record as the widest cable-stayed bridge in its category and includes a 300-meter navigation opening for vessels on the Nile. This gap allows larger cargo boats and tour craft to pass underneath without obstruction.
