Pyramid of Khui

The rectangular base of the pyramid measures 146 meters by 136 meters, with thick mudbrick walls slanting inward around a central empty space.

Built during the First Intermediate Period around 2150 BCE, the structure is attributed to Khui, either an 8th Dynasty ruler or a local governor.

The burial chamber, positioned 8.8 meters underground, represents the Egyptian architectural tradition of creating protected spaces for royal remains and treasures.

A horizontal corridor from the north face leads to a limestone-lined gallery with eleven arches, directing visitors toward the central burial chamber.

The structure contains walls reaching 35 meters in thickness, which originally enclosed an interior space filled with sand and gravel.
