Pompey's Pillar, Roman victory column in Alexandria, Egypt

The red granite monolithic column rises 26.85 meters high with a base diameter of 2.71 meters on the ancient Serapeum site.

The column was built between 298 and 302 CE to honor Emperor Diocletian after his successful campaign against an Egyptian rebellion.

The monument represents the last remaining element of the Serapeum temple complex, which contained part of the Alexandria Library collection.

The site opens daily to visitors for 80 Egyptian pounds, located near the Kom El Shoqafa Catacombs in western Alexandria.

This monumental column shaft weighs 285 tons and stands as the largest Roman column constructed outside the imperial capitals of Rome and Constantinople.
