Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum

The Mohamed Mahmoud Khalil Museum occupies a four-story palace building from 1915, featuring Art Nouveau architectural elements facing the Nile River.

The Egyptian government converted this former private residence into a public museum in 1962, following the bequest of Mahmoud Khalil and his wife Emiline Lock.

The museum displays a collection of nineteenth and twentieth-century works by European masters, including paintings by Van Gogh, Monet, Courbet, and Gauguin.

The museum contains three floors of art galleries, presenting European paintings, Japanese boxes, Turkish dishes, and sculptures across different exhibition spaces.

A French artist, Lucien Matte, painted a decorative window in 1907 that remains within the museum, combining European artistic influence with Egyptian architecture.
