Manial Palace and Museum, Art Nouveau palace and museum in Manial district, Cairo
Manial Palace and Museum is a palace and history museum in the Manial district of Cairo. The complex includes several buildings, among them living quarters, reception halls, a throne room, a mosque and a clock tower, designed in different Islamic architectural styles.
Construction began in 1901 under the supervision of Prince Mohammed Ali Tewfik, son of Khedive Tewfik. Work continued until 1929, when the last building was completed.
The name recalls Prince Mohammed Ali Tewfik, who lived here and assembled his collections of Arabic art and manuscripts. Visitors today see interiors with wood paneling, glass mosaics and tiles that show different periods of Islamic design.
The museum opens daily from 9 AM to 5 PM, with different admission fees for locals and international guests. Comfortable shoes help when exploring the grounds, which spread across multiple buildings and gardens.
One of its features is the collection of hunting trophies, royal furniture and textiles in rooms such as the Blue Salon. The Aubusson chamber displays wall hangings from French workshops made for the prince.
