Pitón Volcánico de Cancarix

The volcanic formation rises to 707 meters above sea level, featuring exposed volcanic pipes and distinctive lamproite rocks within the Sierra de las Cabras mountain range.

The volcanic structure formed approximately 7.04 million years ago during the Upper Miocene period, with natural erosion revealing its internal geological composition over time.

Scientists and geologists from the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute study this site extensively, documenting its rare ultrapotassic rock formations and volcanic processes.

Visitors can access two marked trails around the volcano, with the shorter route covering 700 meters and the longer path extending to 4 kilometers through volcanic terrain.

The site contains a specific type of lamproite named cancarixite after its location, representing one of the few exposed volcanic pipes in the Iberian Peninsula.
