Ferrera Palace, palace in Spain
Ferrera Palace is a Baroque building in Avilés that now operates as a luxury hotel and sits at Plaza de España. The structure displays characteristic Baroque features with large windows, high ceilings, and valuable artworks throughout its interior spaces.
The palace was built between the 17th and 18th centuries as a private residence of the Marqués de Ferrera family and remained a family home for nearly 300 years. After 1974 its use changed, and since 2003 NH Hoteles has operated the building following major renovation work completed in 2003.
The palace was the residence of the Marqués de Ferrera family and continues to shape the character of Avilés' historic center today. Its location at Plaza de España reflects its former role as a seat of local nobility and its importance in the city's social life.
The hotel is centrally located at Plaza de España with good access to other sights in Avilés nearby. The palace has both a main entrance from the square and a side entrance near the San Nicolás de Bari church, making it easy to explore the historic old town from multiple directions.
The palace contains inside a wooden spiral staircase built around an old wooden ship's mast that still survives today. This architectural feature shows a creative solution that links Avilés' maritime history with the palace's design in an unexpected way.
