Playa de Sotavento de Jandía, Beach and windsurfing spot in Fuerteventura, Spain.

Playa de Sotavento de Jandía is a nine-kilometer stretch of white sand with shallow, clear water extending from the shore. At low tide, a natural lagoon forms, while high tide returns the space to a traditional beach configuration.

International windsurfing championships have been held here since the 1980s, making this location known to athletes worldwide. These competitions established the beach as a premier destination for the sport.

The five connected beaches—La Barca, Risco del Paso, Mirador, Los Canarios, and Malnombre—serve different groups of visitors, from windsurfers seeking wind to those preferring more secluded areas. Each section has developed its own character through how people naturally use the space.

The René Egli water sports center offers year-round equipment rentals and lessons, with optimal wind conditions between May and September. Arriving early helps you experience the best conditions and see the lagoon at low tide.

At low tide, a lagoon system spanning about three kilometers forms, representing one of the largest tidal phenomena in the Canary Islands. This creates a different experience with each visit, depending on the timing of your arrival.
