Cornettes de Bise

The Cornettes de Bise is a mountain range straddling the France-Switzerland border, featuring steep limestone cliffs and extensive scree slopes throughout the formation. The terrain displays rocky outcrops and talus fields characteristic of alpine geology.

The mountain received protection designations including Natura 2000 status and a biotope protection decree to preserve its natural environment. These measures were implemented to safeguard the ecological value of this alpine region.

The mountain paths pass by traditional alpine chalets where visitors can observe how mountain communities use the landscape seasonally. These settlements reflect the rhythm of pastoral life adapted to high altitude conditions.

The terrain demands solid hiking experience and proper equipment, especially when weather conditions change rapidly in the mountains. Visitors should expect alpine challenges such as steep slopes and loose ground underfoot.

The area supports a notable population of Alpine ibex alongside chamois and mouflons living in their natural habitat. These animals are well adapted to the harsh mountain environment and can be spotted during visits.
