Crêt de la Neige, Mountain summit in Thoiry, France

Crêt de la Neige is the highest point in the Jura Mountains at 1720 meters elevation, making it also the top of the Ain department. The summit offers wide views across the surrounding mountain ranges and valleys below.

Local blacksmiths and residents from Thoiry once installed a metal cross at the summit to mark this geographical high point. The cross remains a visible symbol of the community's connection to the mountain.

The summit sits within the Jura Mountains Regional Nature Park, where specific alpine plants like Globeflowers and Gentians shape the mountain grasslands. These species reflect the natural character visitors see while walking across the slopes.

Multiple marked trails lead to the summit, with the most direct route starting from the Tiocan observation point beyond Thoiry. Visitors should wear sturdy footwear and bring layers, as mountain weather can change rapidly at this elevation.

A metal cross installed by locals crowns the summit and is visible from a distance. This landmark gives the peak a distinctive silhouette and serves hikers as a visual reference point when approaching.
