Crêt du Midi

Crêt du Midi is a mountain summit at 1890 meters high located between two villages in the French Alps. From the top you can see neighboring mountain ranges and in the distance Mont Blanc.

The summit has been used for centuries by shepherds who drove their herds between the valleys and summer pastures at higher elevations. These ancient herding routes still shape the hiking network in the region today.

The summit is part of a walking network that connects several nature reserves and is used by hikers to explore the mountain landscape. Visitors follow routes that have long been used in this area for accessing the high elevations.

The hike to the summit takes about 4 to 5 hours and starts from a nearby village at a lower elevation. The trail is well-marked and overnight accommodations are available in a mountain lodge halfway up.

A small mountain lodge halfway between the two villages shelters hikers and provides a quiet place to rest for groups at different paces. The place remains hidden from many day visitors who head straight to the summit.
