Tête du Torraz, Summit in La Giettaz and Flumet, France
Tête du Torraz is a mountain summit above the valleys of La Giettaz and Flumet, rising to 1930 meters (6,330 feet). The marked trail climbs through forest patches, open grasslands, and rocky sections to reach a broad summit area with panoramic views.
The summit sits along an old trade route where merchants and herders once moved goods between valleys across mountain passes. These ancient paths eventually became the hiking routes used today.
The name Torraz comes from local mountain dialect and reflects how closely people have lived with this landscape. The alpine meadows you walk through show traces of pastoral traditions that shaped the area for centuries.
The hike is demanding and takes several hours, so start early in the day and bring sturdy boots. Mountain weather changes quickly, so pack a jacket and plenty of water regardless of conditions below.
Alpine meadows around the summit are home to marmots that are active from May through October. These animals live in family groups and produce distinctive whistling sounds when they spot danger.
