Sommet des Salles, Mountain summit in Haute-Savoie, France
Sommet des Salles is a mountain summit in Haute-Savoie that rises across the boundary lines between Megève, Combloux, and Cordon. Multiple ridge lines extend from this peak in different directions, with the highest point reaching approximately 1,757 meters (5,761 feet).
The peak consists of limestone and marl formations from the Middle Jurassic period, specifically from the Bajocian and Aalénian stages. These rock layers formed over millions of years and continue to shape the mountain's structure today.
The summit serves as a meeting point for visitors from the three surrounding villages, with its name reflecting local history and geography. People use this location for skiing and hiking, making it central to how the region's communities engage with their landscape.
Winter access is provided by ski lifts, while marked trails allow you to explore on foot throughout the year. Weather conditions vary significantly by season, so dress warmly and check conditions before heading out.
The peak has a star-shaped structure with smaller ridges branching off in multiple directions, each offering different vantage points. From various positions around the summit, you can see the Mont Blanc massif and Aravis range from entirely different perspectives.
