Chapelle Sainte-Anne des Aravis

Chapelle Sainte-Anne des Aravis is a small stone chapel located at Col des Aravis at approximately 1,500 meters elevation. The structure features a simple facade bearing an inscription dedicated to the protection of travelers crossing the mountain pass.

The chapel was founded in 1624 and has remained a landmark of the pass since its establishment. It underwent multiple renovations over the centuries to withstand the harsh effects of mountain weather.

The chapel serves as a gathering place for mountain communities seeking blessings for safe passage and favorable weather conditions. Its role reflects the deep connection between alpine inhabitants and their spiritual traditions tied to the land.

The roof was renovated using traditional wooden shingles called tavaillons, preserving an old craft technique from the region. This traditional method demonstrates how alpine communities maintain building practices passed down through generations.
