La Clusaz, Alpine ski resort in Haute-Savoie, France
La Clusaz is a ski resort in Haute-Savoie in the French Alps, spread across five mountain massifs. The terrain offers 125 kilometers of groomed runs connected by a network of lifts serving beginners and advanced skiers alike.
The mountain village relied mainly on farming until the mid-20th century. The first ski lift was built in 1955 and gradually turned the place into a winter sports destination.
Savoyard architecture appears in the wooden chalets with wide balconies and stone foundations. Many farms still make cheese using old methods, so visitors can observe alpine agriculture alongside winter sports.
The ski season typically runs from mid-December to early May, depending on snow conditions in the higher zones. Day passes for adults cost around 52 euros and for children about 40 euros, with prices varying by period.
The Balme massif reaches 2,485 meters (8,150 feet) and offers north-facing slopes that hold snow longer. The orientation means the runs often remain in good condition late into the season.
