Croix Cartier

Croix Cartier is a summit in the French Alps at about 1834 meters elevation with a cross marking the peak. From here, you can see the surrounding mountain peaks of Val d'Arly and Mont Blanc.

Shepherds and hikers have used the paths to this summit for generations as a natural landmark in the mountains. The cross was later placed to mark this important reference point in the region.

The site sits within working alpine pastures where farmers graze cattle herds during summer months. The landscape reflects daily pastoral practices that have shaped these heights over generations.

A circular trail from the parking area takes about 3 to 4 hours and requires moderate fitness. The route is well-marked and passes through varied terrain from forests to open meadows.

As you hike between nearby peaks, Mont Blanc and Dome du Gouter suddenly appear on the horizon. These distant views reward walkers with multiple scenic moments during the journey.
