Wooden railings and staircase elements reflect patterns from the Imperial Palace of Huế, while the building holds approximately 130 rooms and apartments for international residents.
The building opened in 1930 as the Indochina House, funded by French industrialists and supported by prominent local figures of the time. The name later changed to reflect a broader focus on all of Southeast Asia rather than remaining tied to a single colonial-era region.
The main hall features a restored artwork by a Vietnamese painter and regularly hosts classical music performances. These cultural events create a space where residents and visitors experience artistic expression rooted in Southeast Asian traditions.
The residence is located within the international university campus and is easily reached by public transportation that runs throughout the day. Keep in mind this is an active residential building, so tours or access to certain areas may not be available at all times.
The building served as a filming location for various productions, including a notable 1990s film about French colonial history. This cinematic use added an extra layer of artistic and cultural significance to the place.
