Nahal Rubin

Nahal Rubin is a protected area in the Jerusalem District that encompasses varied habitats including river wetlands, marshes, and open fields. Over 100 bird species rely on the site during their annual migrations, making it an important stopover and breeding ground throughout the seasons.

The site has been recognized as a sacred location for centuries, holding religious significance for those who followed faith-based traditions. In more recent times, it became protected for its natural ecology and importance to bird migration routes.

The area draws people who come to observe birds, walk along the river, and spend time in nature at their own pace. Visitors experience the rhythm of the seasons as they move through different habitats and witness the changing wildlife patterns throughout the year.

Access to the area is available from Kibbutz Palmachim, where parking is provided for visitors. Bring water and wear comfortable shoes, as trails can be exposed to sun, particularly during warmer months.

Rubin River is one of the few rivers in Israel that flows year-round rather than drying up seasonally. This constant water source makes it a rare refuge for plants and animals across the region.
