Malik Isan's Mosque, 15th century Indo-Islamic mosque in Isanpur district, Ahmedabad, India.
Malik Isan's Mosque is a prayer hall with three domes atop a raised platform in Isanpur, Ahmedabad, dating from the 15th century. The central dome rises higher than the two side structures, and the complex has covered porches on the north and east sides.
The building was constructed around 1520 by Malik Isan, a nobleman in Mahmud Begada's court, and marks the founding of the Isanpur suburb. Its construction was part of Ahmedabad's urban growth during the sultanate period.
The mosque blends Islamic prayer spaces with local construction methods, reflecting how different craft traditions worked together. Visitors can see this mixture in the details of columns and arches throughout the structure.
The site is easily accessible from the north and east with covered entrances, and the main prayer hall is located on the western side. Visitors should expect the raised platform to have steps and should wear appropriate attire when entering the prayer area.
The building endured severe shaking during the 2001 earthquake but retained its original structure and function. This resilience shows the quality of the craftsmanship and geometric design that protected it from damage.
