IIT Bombay Racing, Student racing team at Indian Institute of Technology, Mumbai, India
IIT Bombay Racing is a student-run team at the Indian Institute of Technology in Mumbai that designs and builds formula-style racing cars according to international competition rules. The group works in a dedicated facility on campus, assembling and testing electrical and mechanical systems to create vehicles from the ground up.
The team started operations in 2007 and presented its first vehicle Vayu at Formula Student Michigan in 2008. A major milestone came in 2012 with the creation of EVo 1.0, the first fully electric racing car designed and built by Indian students.
The 70-member team combines students from mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science departments to create innovative racing solutions.
Visitors can see the team's work areas on campus and observe how students work on real engineering projects. It helps to contact the group in advance since availability varies depending on the academic calendar and competition schedule.
The team has developed multiple generations of vehicles, with each new model building on the previous one and expanding student capabilities. This continuous chain of innovation shows how knowledge is passed from one student generation to the next.
