Tirupati district, Administrative district in Andhra Pradesh, India
Tirupati is an administrative division in southeastern Andhra Pradesh that includes mountainous terrain and a narrow coastal zone by the sea. The territory stretches from the Seshachalam Hills inland to a coastal strip where several settlements and farmlands are located.
The division was formed through a reorganization of administrative boundaries in 2022 and now comprises several dozen smaller units. The region itself has a long history as a transit area between South Indian kingdoms and trade routes.
The area is home to many Hindu shrines where worshippers perform daily rituals and bring offerings. Thousands of pilgrims travel here to pray in the temples and experience the atmosphere of spiritual devotion.
Roads and railway lines connect the area to larger cities nearby, so you can arrive by bus or train. Once there, local transport works best to reach the different towns and natural areas.
On the island of Sriharikota within the division lies a space launch center from which India regularly sends satellites and rockets into orbit. The launch pads sit in a coastal area otherwise marked by lagoons and shallow water.
