Muthenna Air Base, Military air base in Baghdad, Iraq
Muthenna Air Base is a military airfield west of central Baghdad with a 3,000-meter runway made of asphalt and concrete. The installation contains hangars, control facilities, administrative buildings, and support structures for flight operations and aircraft maintenance.
The facility originated as headquarters for the Iraqi Air Force and served as a major airfield during the 1991 Gulf War. After 2003, it was converted into a military operations center supporting the reconstruction of Iraqi air capabilities.
The base served as a critical recruitment center for the reformed Iraqi military forces following the establishment of the new government in 2004.
This is an active military installation with restricted public access due to security protocols. Information about specific areas and operations remains limited because of the site's sensitive nature.
Three C-130E transport aircraft were delivered to this location in 2005 as part of the effort to rebuild the Iraqi air force capabilities.
