San Rossore Park, Nature reserve in Tuscany, Italy
The San Rossore Park spans across 23,000 hectares of coastal lands between Pisa and Lucca, featuring pine forests, sand dunes, and marshlands.
The estate transformed from a medieval monastic site dedicated to San Luxorio into a royal residence and later served as the Presidential Estate from 1956 to 1999.
The park includes Lake Massaciuccoli, the estates of Migliarino and Tombolo, and hosts the prestigious Premio Pisa horse race since 1885.
Visitors can access the park through guided tours, exploring its territories by foot, bicycle, horse carriage, or ecological train from the main entrance in Cascine Vecchie.
Dromedaries lived here from the 17th century until 1976, brought by Grand Duke Ferdinando II de Medici. The last one died after World War II, ending more than three centuries of this unusual herd on Tuscan soil.
