Sierra Tonante, Wooden roller coaster at Mirabilandia, Savio, Italy
Sierra Tonante was a wooden roller coaster at Mirabilandia park featuring natural-looking unpainted track and white support structures. The ride covered roughly 1000 meters of track winding through the park grounds.
The coaster opened in 1992 and was Europe's tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster at that time. It closed and was dismantled in 2007 after more than a decade of operation.
The name Sierra Tonante refers to a thundering mountain range in Italian, capturing the sense of racing through rugged highlands. This title emphasized the wild nature of what riders would experience on the coaster.
Each train held 32 riders and the park operated two trains running simultaneously. This capacity allowed the ride to move up to 1200 visitors per hour.
The ride featured numerous hills including twisted sections and a bunny hill that created moments of weightlessness. These elements gave riders repeated sensations of airtime throughout the journey.
