Rifugio Brentei, Mountain hut in Brenta Dolomites, Italy
Rifugio Brentei is a mountain hut located in the Brenta Dolomites, in Val Brenta, at around 2,182 meters (7,159 ft) above sea level. It faces the surrounding rock walls and looks out toward Madonna di Campiglio and the Adamello-Presanella range.
The hut was built in 1947 by the Italian Alpine Club of Monza. The mountaineer Bruno Detassis and his son then ran it for many years in a row.
Black and white photographs line the wooden walls, showing climbers and mountain life from past decades. Looking closely, visitors can spot faces and gear that reveal how climbing has changed over time.
The hut can only be reached on foot from Vallesinella, so solid hiking footwear is a must. Starting early in the day is a good idea, as the walk takes some time and mountain weather can change fast.
A small stone chapel stands just above the hut as a memorial to climbers who lost their lives on the surrounding peaks. The place is easy to miss, but those who find it tend to remember it.
