Parma Airport, airport
Parma Airport, also known as Giuseppe Verdi Airport, is a small regional airport in the Emilia-Romagna region that handles domestic routes and a limited number of European connections. It has a single terminal building with check-in desks, a compact departure lounge, and a handful of basic services.
The airport was established in the mid-20th century to give the Parma area a direct air link to the rest of Italy. Over the following decades, the facilities were gradually updated to accommodate a small number of international routes as well.
The airport carries the official name Giuseppe Verdi, honoring the composer born just outside Parma. Seeing that name on the terminal building is a small but telling sign of how deeply the region identifies with its most famous son.
The airport is small and easy to move through, so getting from the entrance to the gate takes only a few minutes. Because the number of shops and food options is limited, it is worth sorting out meals or shopping before arriving.
The runway is too short for wide-body aircraft, so only smaller planes operate here, and boarding often takes place directly on the tarmac rather than through a jetway. This gives arrivals and departures a different feel compared to larger airports, with the plane very close and the process quite direct.
