Construction workers uncovered this underground chamber in 1999 during renovations, revealing a space that remained concealed under debris since the fourteenth century.
The walls display artworks by medieval Sienese painters including Guido da Siena, Dietisalvi di Speme, and Guido di Graziano, representing both Old and New Testament scenes.
Visitors can access the crypt through the cathedral complex entrance at Piazza del Duomo 8 in Siena, with tickets valid for three consecutive days.
The crypt contains preserved architectural elements that reveal information about the cathedral's construction phases from the twelfth through fourteenth centuries.
