Abbazia di San Michele Arcangelo a Martùri

The abbey stands on an elevated position south of Poggibonsi, featuring a substantial villa structure with a fifteenth-century chapel incorporated within its walls.

Founded in 972 under the Marquesses of Tuscany, the abbey received extensive land donations in 998, including the castle of Martùri and several churches.

The abbey maintains its status as a religious center within the Roman Catholic Church, hosting weekly masses and traditional ceremonies throughout the liturgical year.

The medieval complex includes both the main church building and a separate chapel, providing multiple spaces for religious services and community gatherings.

During the thirteenth century, the abbey served as an administrative center where important public acts were conducted despite the declining influence of Martùri castle.
