Castello di Strozzavolpe

Castello di Strozzavolpe is a medieval fortress perched on a hillside near Poggibonsi, defined by irregular stone walls that follow the terrain. Entry passes through a reconstructed tower that serves as the original keep and leads into the structure's interior.

The castle was first recorded in 1154 under the name Scoriavolpe and subsequently passed from the Salimbeni family to the Adimari of Florence. It endured warfare and various transformations across the centuries while maintaining its role as a fortified structure.

The castle maintains a collection of historical weapons within its halls, representing the medieval defensive architecture of the Tuscan region.

The structure currently serves as a private residence managed by the Banchi-Arcangeli family, requiring advance reservation to visit. Planning a visit well ahead of time is necessary to arrange access to the property.

A wooden bridge spanning to the main entrance is bordered by a row of tall cypress trees, creating a distinctive approach to the fortification. This tree-lined passage marks the formal gateway visitors pass through before arriving at the fortress.
