Castello della Boffalora, Medieval castle in Agazzano, Italy

Castello della Boffalora is a castle in Agazzano with a rectangular layout and five towers built from stone and brick. The main tower features distinctive protruding brick elements at its summit.

The castle was granted to the Arcelli family by Duke Filippo Maria Visconti in 1412, and later passed through the hands of multiple noble families. This gift marked the start of its period as a noble residence with changing ownership.

The castle displays traces of its shift from military stronghold to noble residence through architectural features like the portico and loggia that were added over time. These elements show how inhabitants reshaped the structure to suit their way of living.

The castle sits between Val Tidone and Val Luretta at about 300 meters elevation with views over the road linking Pianello Val Tidone to Agazzano. The location is easily accessible by local roads that connect the surrounding valleys.

The chapel dedicated to Saint Joseph was built in 1726 and contains two altars positioned at different levels, which is rare in this region. This unusual arrangement reflects the specific needs of the castle's residents at that time.
