Castello della Bastardina

Castello della Bastardina, Medieval castle in Agazzano, Italy

Castello della Bastardina is a castle with a rectangular form and corner towers located in Agazzano in Piacenza province. It sits at the foot of the Apennines between the Luretta and Tidone valleys, near the Tidone river.

Construction of the castle began in 1450 under the Scotti family, who designed it as a status symbol. This work reflects the importance a wealthy family placed on their residence during that era.

The castle takes its name from the La Bastarda fortress in the Aosta Valley due to shared architectural features and building techniques. This connection reveals how construction styles and knowledge spread across different regions.

The castle can be reached from the center of Agazzano by following the Strada Comunale Tavergnano-Cantone road. This route leads directly to the building and provides straightforward access.

The property includes an Italian garden from the 19th century, designed by Luigi Ghezzi in 1905. This garden surrounds the brick-built structure and offers visitors a peaceful contrast to the fortress-like architecture.
