Castello di Lisignano

Castello di Lisignano, Medieval stone castle in Gazzola, Italy.

Castello di Lisignano is a castle situated on the first slopes of the Ligurian Apennines near the Luretta stream. It features a rectangular layout with four corner towers and retains its original stone construction throughout.

This fortress emerged as a medieval military stronghold in the region during the medieval period. It later transformed into a noble residence when the interior was substantially modified in the late 1600s.

The castle underwent substantial interior modifications in the late 17th century, transforming it from a military structure into a noble residence.

The castle is currently not open to public visits as it remains privately owned by the Del Boca family. Visitors can appreciate the exterior architecture and stone structures from the surrounding area.

Local lore suggests an underground tunnel connects this castle to nearby Agazzano Castle, running beneath the Luretta stream. This passage may have allowed discreet communication between the two fortifications.
