Castello di Rezzanello

Castello di Rezzanello, Medieval castle in Gazzola, Italy.

Castello di Rezzanello stands on the slopes of Monte Bissago near the Luretta stream, featuring four towers and a trapezoidal layout. The building spans multiple floors with halls, bedrooms, and rooms that reflect its former military and residential functions.

The first documented mention dates to 1001, and later the castle provided shelter to Guelph forces during their conflicts with the Ghibellines. These power struggles shaped the region for generations.

The Reception Hall occupies spaces that once served as a dungeon, while the Salone dei Blasoni displays historical family crests of regional nobles. These rooms show how power and family identity were presented in medieval times.

Access is via a path from the village, and the site sits on elevated ground with clear views toward the valley. Visitors should note that paths around the grounds can be uneven, particularly after rain.

The seven-hectare park surrounding the castle includes two lakes and a pond with exotic plants thriving in specific microclimatic conditions. These green spaces feel surprising when you consider the rugged terrain surrounding them.
