Castello di Agazzano

Castello di Agazzano, Medieval fortress in Agazzano, Italy.

Castello di Agazzano is a medieval fortress in a small town near Piacenza featuring rounded corner towers and a double courtyard layout at its core. A Renaissance loggia with sandstone columns decorated with heraldic capitals stands as a distinctive architectural addition to the original stronghold.

Giovanni Scotti founded the fortification in the 13th century as a defensive structure for the region. Major reconstruction in 1475 following fire damage introduced Renaissance architectural elements that reshaped its appearance.

The castle halls hold furniture and decorative arts collected over centuries, with ceramics and porcelain pieces displayed alongside tempera wall paintings created by past residents. These objects tell stories of how people lived and what they valued across different generations.

The site functions as an event venue where visitors can book guided tours to explore the interior rooms and layout. Overnight stays are available in the Eleonora Rangoni suite, which offers views over the French-style garden on the grounds.

Adjacent to the original medieval stronghold stands a separate 18th-century villa built on the site of what was once the castle's village. This pairing of two distinct structures reveals how the property evolved from a purely military outpost into a residential complex.
