Chiesa di Santa Sofia

The Chiesa di Santa Sofia is a baroque church in Anacapri with a Latin cross layout, side aisles, and a prominent dome where the transept intersects. Five smaller domes with lanterns crown the roof, and two bell towers with visible clocks mark the church's exterior.

The church was founded in 1595 and replaced the earlier parish church of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli. A major expansion came in 1698 when two additional chapels were added, extending the building toward the main square.

The chapel dedicated to Sant'Antonio reflects the island's long-standing devotion to its patron saint and shows how religious life shaped daily routines here. This connection between faith and community remains visible in how locals and visitors interact with the space today.

The church sits in Anacapri's historic center near Via Giuseppe Orlandi and is easily reached on foot from the main town area. The interior is bright and open, making it simple to explore the full layout and details without difficulty.

A rectangular pulpit rests on two corbels before the last arch on the right side, adorned with colorful polychrome marble details. This carved element reveals the craftsmanship that went into furnishing the space when it was first built.
