Monte Solaro

Monte Solaro rises 589 meters above sea level on the island of Capri, forming a natural barrier between the eastern and western sections of the island.

The Fortino di Bruto blockhouse on Monte Solaro served as a strategic point during conflicts between British and French forces in the early 1800s.

The mountain houses the Eremo di Santa Maria a Cetrella, a fifteenth-century church where sailors traditionally prayed before departing on sea voyages.

Visitors can reach the summit via a 12-minute chairlift ride from Anacapri, costing 11 euros round trip, or through a 90-minute hike along Viale Axel Munthe.

The slopes of Monte Solaro contain over 900 plant species, including rare specimens of lithodora rosmarinifolia, orchids, and Mediterranean shrubs.
