Santa Cristina, Parma

Santa Cristina is a baroque church in central Parma with a three-part layout divided by columns with Ionic capitals. Eight chapels topped with domes are arranged symmetrically around the main space.

Construction started in 1650 under architect Pietro Caracciolo and finished in 1662, while monastery work continued until 1732. The church sustained damage during wartime but was later restored.

The interior features artworks by local painters from the 1700s that decorate the walls with religious scenes. Visitors can appreciate the craftsmanship of these pieces, which form part of the everyday space.

The church sits on Via Repubblica in the center and is easy to reach on foot. As an active place of worship, visitors should follow the practices of the local community.

Inside sits an organ built in 1764 by Antonio Poncini Negri that required restoration after suffering damage. The instrument stands as a testament to 18th-century craftsmanship.
