Palazzo Monaco di Lapio, 18th-century palace on Via Toledo, Naples, Italy
Description
Palazzo Monaco di Lapio is an 18th-century palace on Via Toledo that spreads across three stories with a stucco facade featuring arched tympani. The exterior displays numerous portrait busts and a central balcony that spans three rooms on the main floor.
History
The building was constructed in 1551 by Cristoforo Vitale from Cava de' Tirreni and underwent major transformations in the 18th century when the Monaco family took ownership. These renovations reshaped the original structure into the refined residence visible today.
Culture
The interior displays ornamental ceilings in the apartments on the second floor and holds statues along with fountains from ancient times in the entrance hall and courtyard. These pieces show the taste of the family who lived here and decorated the rooms with precious objects.
Practical
The external facade underwent complete restoration work between 2017 and 2018 while preserving the building's architectural character. Visitors can appreciate the detailed stonework and decorative elements from the street and explore the surroundings along Via Toledo.
Did you know?
A three-arched grand staircase restored in 1963 marks the transition from the entrance courtyard to the upper floors. This architectural feature is a striking element that visitors notice when moving through the internal spaces of the building.
