Palazzo Montalto, Gothic palace in Ortygia island, Syracuse, Italy
The Palazzo Montalto features multiple mullioned windows adorned with floral designs and a marble entrance portal displaying construction details.
Built in 1397 for Maciotta Mergulese, the palace later came into possession of Filippo Montalto through a transfer by the Queen of Aragon.
The palace exemplifies the Chiaramonte Gothic architectural style, with decorative elements similar to those found at Palazzo Falson in Malta.
Located on the island of Ortygia, the palace served as a temporary medical facility during the 1837 cholera epidemic and later housed religious groups.
The building's facade incorporates a palline losanghe cornice and features an inscription commemorating its original construction date and ownership.
