Landriani Palace, 18th-century palace in Portici, Italy
Description
Landriani Palace is a three-story building constructed in the mid-18th century featuring a large internal courtyard surrounded by arched arcades. Its monumental entrance portal, crafted from piperno stone, marks the grand approach to the residence.
History
The building was erected between 1750 and 1754 for Don Giuseppe Maria di Lecce, a cathedral canon from Lucera. In 1837, the Scolopi Fathers acquired the palace and converted it into a private college.
Culture
The chapel dedicated to SS. Croce is built into the structure and reflects how noble families of that era organized their spiritual spaces within their homes. You can observe the way private devotion was integrated into daily palace life.
Practical
The building is located at Via Gravina 8 in Portici and currently functions as a private college operated by the Scolopi Fathers. Keep in mind it remains an active educational institution, so access may be limited depending on school activities.
Did you know?
The neighborhood name Bellavista originated from Maria Carolina of Austria, who was enchanted by the view from the palace balcony. Her comment about the beautiful outlook inspired locals to name the surrounding area after her impression.
