The Villa Saluzzo Serra stands on via Capolungo with a noble chapel, set within the extensive municipal parks of Nervi along the Mediterranean coast.
The seventeenth-century villa changed owners multiple times until 1926 when shipowner Carlo Barabino sold it to the Municipality of Genoa for 2,200,000 lire.
The Gallery of Modern Art, established in 1928, contains 2,700 works including paintings, sculptures, and drawings from the early nineteenth century to present day.
The museum underwent extensive renovations with movable plasterboard walls and air conditioning systems to maintain proper conditions for artwork preservation.
Frederick William III of Prussia, Queen Maria Cristina of Spain, and historian Jules Michelet visited this residence during its noble period.
