Parchi di Nervi, Urban park and botanical garden in Nervi district, Genoa, Italy.

Parchi di Nervi combines three historic villas and their surrounding gardens into one continuous green space facing the Mediterranean Sea. The estate features pathways connecting different garden sections, and several villas now house art museums and collections open to visitors.

The park developed from separate estates built by wealthy families starting in the 19th century, each with distinct gardens and architectural styles. The properties were later joined together and opened to the public, preserving the gardens while making them accessible to everyone.

The gardens reflect the tastes and passions of the families who once lived here, with private chapels and grottoes built into the villas showing their personal interests. Walking through the grounds, you encounter fountains and sculptures that reveal how the wealthy residents wanted to be surrounded by art and nature.

The grounds are easy to explore on foot, with shaded pathways that gently slope toward the coast and suit visitors of various fitness levels. Museum hours vary by villa, so check ahead if you plan to visit the art collections housed inside the buildings.

One section focuses on a rose collection with more than 200 varieties arranged in three separate gardens displaying ancient, modern, and competition rose types. This dedicated display offers an unusual look at the different ways roses can be cultivated and bred.

Photo spots in Genova

Genoa blends Renaissance architecture with views of the sea and mountains rising behind the city. In the streets of the old town, palaces from the 16th and 17th centuries stand with frescoed interiors and marble portals. The harbor stretches along the coast, where old cranes sit beside modern museums. From elevated points like Spianata di Castelletto, you see across the rooftops to the water, while the alleys of the center hold churches, squares, and covered galleries.
