Passeggiata di Nervi, Coastal promenade in Nervi district, Genoa, Italy
The Passeggiata di Nervi is a roughly two-kilometer promenade that runs from Nervi's small harbor to Capolungo along the rocky Ligurian coastline. The path continuously offers sea views and connects several historic villas with nearby parks throughout its length.
The path first appeared in 1823 as a route for local fishermen and farmers moving through the area. Construction of the current stone promenade began in 1862 under Marquis Gaetano Gropallo and created the walkway that exists today.
The promenade's name honors Anita Garibaldi since 1945 and connects several museums including the Modern Art Gallery and Raccolte Frugone. You can feel here how deeply local life has always been tied to the sea, something still visible in how people use this walk today.
The path has ladders at several points leading down to swimming spots and fishing areas along the shore. These access points let visitors leave the walkway and reach the water or explore the coastline more closely.
A sixteenth-century defensive tower still stands by the water, once built to guard against pirates attacking the coast. Today local groups use the structure as their meeting place, adding a layer of history to the walk.
