Hokkai-Gakuen University is a private institution in central Sapporo on the island of Hokkaido, offering programs in economics, law, humanities, and engineering. The institution was founded in 1885 as Hokkai English School to prepare young people for higher education. In 1952 it received status as a private university and began with a teaching program for fewer than 300 students.
