ARCHE, Commercial building in Chuo-ku, Japan

ARCHE is a commercial building at the intersection of Sapporo Ekimae-dori (Route 36) and the Tanukikoji shopping arcade in Chuo-ku, Sapporo. It rises from basement floor B2 to the 8th floor and connects directly to the Sapporo Chikagai (Pole Town) underground mall. Its floors hold shops and restaurants, including the MEGA Don Quijote Sapporo Tanukikoji main store from B2 to 4F.

The building opened in 1970 as "Eight" (Eito Department Store), named for the eight original tenant owners and for the auspicious meanings of its characters, with 40 shops at the start. Sapporo city decided in 1988 to sell its shares in the Eight building; the name changed to ARCHE in 1990. Jaba acquired it in 2007 and Japan Asset Marketing in 2018, and a MEGA Don Quijote store opened in 2019.

The name ARCHE replaced "Eight" in 1990; the original name referred to the eight founding tenants of the 1970 cooperative store building, among them Marusō Kawaseki, Kawada Camera and Nihon Gakki (Yamaha). The building stands at the crossing of National Route 36 (Sapporo Ekimae-dori) and the Tanukikoji shopping arcade, and connects directly to the Pole Town underground mall.

ARCHE sits at the junction of National Route 36 (Sapporo Ekimae-dori) and the Tanukikoji shopping arcade, connected directly to the Sapporo Chikagai (Pole Town) underground mall. The Tanukikoji tram stop is about a one-minute walk away, and Susukino subway station on the Namboku line about four minutes. The upper floors hold shops, restaurants and a net cafe, so visitors can enter for those tenants.

The name "Eight" came from the eight original joint-store rights holders, among them Marusō Kawaseki, Kawada Camera and Nihon Gakki's Sapporo branch. Opened in 1970 with 40 tenants, the building was renamed ARCHE in 1990. Japan Asset Marketing only acquired it in 2018, and MEGA Don Quijote opened in 2019.
